VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Kennesaw State University's women's tennis team will travel to Virginia Beach this weekend for the Hampton Roads Invitational, hosted by Old Dominion University.  Several top programs will take part in the event, including William & Mary, Army, Old Dominion and Pittsburgh.

"This is going to be a real test for our team," indicated head coach Brandon Padgett.  "To give you some idea as to the level of competition, Vera Shkundina, who is 9-2 in top flights this fall, was placed in the third flight of singles."

Shkundina, coming off of a finals appearance at the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic, will try to ride the momentum of her strong fall season, which included a title at Austin Peay two weeks ago.  She will open against Jana Luste of New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday in the "B1" singles.

Junior Morgan Carney will also compete for the Owls in the "C2" singles draw.  She will begin her tournament in singles on Saturday against Michaela Rollings of Georgetown.  Iesha Holton will take on Anne Akhimien of Howard in the "D1" draw, and Therese Lagewrkvist will face off with Julia Zook of Navy in the "D2" draw.

The tournament will begin for the Owls doubles duos on Friday.  The team of Holton and Shkundina will pair up to take on Monika Graff and Ana Lidon of NJIT in the "C1" doubles.  Carney and Lagerkvist, competing in the "D1" doubles, will take on Navy's Zook and Cassie Kovac.
