KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Kennesaw State women’s golf team finished the second round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate posting a 282-298/580, +4. The Owls currently sit it second place behind tournament host College of Charleston by two strokes.
"To break the school record today and shoot six under as a team is a testament to the hard work the team has put in this season," head coach Ryhll Brinsmead said. "We are in a great position and are looking forward to finishing with a strong final round."
The Black and Gold finished the opening round of play in the lead by 5 strokes, setting a tournament record shooting a 282, -6. After 18-holes in the afternoon on the Oak Point Course, the Owls slipped to second shooting a 298, +10.
Freshmen Hayley Clinning is once again leading all Owls. The freshmen posted a 70-74/ 144, tying for sixth with 18-holes to play. Senior Abby Fitzgearld is tied for twelfth, shooting a 68-77/145, +1 Fitzgerald finished round one in first place after shooting a 68, the best round of her career and tying for the lowest round in Kennesaw State history.
Sophomore Ket Preamchuen is just two strokes behind her teammates after finishing tied for 17th, shooting 74-72/146, +2. Junior Patricia Arana is tied for 24th posting a 73-75/148, +4. Molly Winnet is tied for 47th after the sophomore shot a 71-83/154, +10. Winnett’s first round score of 71 was the lowest of her career.
The final round begins Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 8:30 using a shotgun format.
