Box Score

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Brandi Jones and Montinique Nixon each scored 13 points, but it wasn't enough as the Kennesaw State women's basketball team fell 73-66 to USC Upstate on Monday night at the Hodge Center in an Atlantic Sun Conference contest.

KSU (5-12, 2-6) trailed 25-12 with seven minutes to go in the first half, but the Lady Owls went on an 18-0 run, their largest of the season, to take a 30-25 lead.  The Spartans (10-7, 4-4) would score the final three points of the half, then open the second half on a 13-2 run to take a 41-32 lead.

The Lady Owls would continue to chip away at the lead, getting the lead down to five with 1:07 to go after a put-back by Sametria Gideon, who had 11 points for the Lady Owls.  Upstate made their last field goal of the contest at the 3:11 mark, but went 10-of-14 in that stretch from the free-throw line to hold on for the win.

For the first time this season, the Lady Owls out-rebounded an opponent in a loss, getting 42 boards to 39 for the Spartans.  Gideon had seven offensive rebounds (eight total) while Nixon led all Lady Owls with nine rebounds.

A quartet of Lady Owls scored in double-figures as Ashley Holliday added 10 points for KSU.  Courtney Hawkins, Lesley Daniel, and Shadae Thompson each scored 13 for the Spartans.

The Lady Owls will be back in action Thursday night as they take on conference-leading Florida Gulf Coast.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. in Fort Myers, Fla.
