The Owls got their second tournament of the season off to a strong start on
Friday, Sept. 25, jumping into seventh place after round one at the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invite hosted by the University of Kentucky.
The Owls completed round one at 17-over par 305, placing them ahead of eight other teams including tournament host, Kentucky. Florida State is leading the field at the Par 72, University Club of Kentucky Golf Course at 10-over par 298, followed by the University of Central Florida, Coastal Carolina, Texas State, Chattanooga, and Notre Dame.
Ashley Aguilera set the pace for the Owls on
Friday, finishing the day in a tie for 13th at 3-over par 75.
"Ashley's 75 was a great round," Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "She grinded all day and I am very proud of her finish."
Last week’s leader for the Owls, Ket Preamchuen continued her impressive freshman season, shooting a 4-over par 76 to leave her in a tie for 20th. Right behind her, tied for 28th, Patrica Arana and Abby Fitzgerald both shot a 5-over par 77, while Jordan Lazenby (tied for 68th) finished at 12-over par 84 rounding out the scoring for Kennesaw State.
"The team really competed well today," Brinsmead said. "We got off to a slow start but everybody worked really hard to stay in it.
"We have placed ourselves well heading into the second round."
Tournament play will resume
tomorrow with round two and reach completion on
