TROY, Ala. - Bucky Smith and Andrew Martin each hit solo home runs to stake Kennesaw State to a lead, but it wasn't enough as the Owls fell to the Trojans of Troy, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Riddle-Pace Field.
The Owls (28-21) jumped on the board first in the third as Smith sent a 1-0 pitch over the wall in left for a solo homer. Martin followed on the next pitch with a solo shot, putting KSU ahead 2-0.
Troy came back with a run in the bottom of the inning, with the home team tying the score at 2-2 with a run in the fifth. The Trojans took the lead when Brett Henry hit a solo home run in the sixth. The home team tacked on an insurance run later in the inning, and the lead would hold through the end of the contest.
Zack Griffith gave up a run in three innings to start for the Owls, with Wes Tignor giving up a run on a hit in two innings of action. Brad Long took the loss for KSU, allowing two runs on three hits in one inning. Ryan Rodebaugh and Kenny Faulk each pitched a scoreless inning for the Owls.
KSU had just six hits on the evening, with Smith getting a pair.
Troy's Andrew Dickinson pitched a scoreless inning to earn the win, while Josh Storm earned a save with a scoreless ninth.
The Owls will be back in action this Thursday as they start their final series of the season against North Florida. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. Thursday night.
