KENNESAW, Ga. - In her final Atlantic Sun Conference game of the season and on Senior Day where she was honored before the game, Jacki Warren hit her first home run of the year to help give Kennesaw State a, 4-2, victory over East Tennessee State in game two of a doubleheader at Bailey Park on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams remained scoreless through two innings until Kennesaw State (21-30, 7-13 A-Sun) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Kelsey Kulk doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning and later scored on a Hollie Huffman single up the middle.
East Tennessee State (25-24, 6-14 A-Sun) answered right back in the fourth inning, scoring two runs on hits from Trisha Massenzo, Marissa Hardy and Kala Tipton, giving the Buccaneers a 2-1 advantage.
The Owls offense came alive in the fifth inning as they took a 3-2 lead when Kulk singled for her second hit of the game and Klair Wells hit her fourth home run of the season over the right-center field fence.
Amanda Burns (3-6), who relieved Catherine Tarvin after four innings, held the Bucs scoreless in the sixth inning as the Owls added an insurance run off the bat of Warren, who launched a majestic shot over the left field fence, putting the Owls up 4-2.
Burns and the Kennesaw State defense stopped ETSU in the top of the seventh as the Bucs went down in order, giving the Owls a split of the twinbill.
Huffman and Kulk had two hits in the game while Burns allowed just one hit in three innings. Tarvin started the game and gave up four hits and two earned runs while striking out four.
The Owls have one final contest remaining as they will play Tennessee Tech in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 30 beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Bailey Park.
