KENNESAW, Ga. - Once again an error proved costly for Kennesaw State as the Owls lost to East Tennessee State, 1-0, in the first game of a doubleheader at Bailey Park on Saturday afternoon.

Kennesaw State (20-30, 6-12 A-Sun) battled through six scoreless innings, as starter April Harper was once again dominant. The freshman hurler allowed seven hits and struck out three batters as she held ETSU in check until the seventh inning when she fell victim to an unearned run.

The Buccaneers (25-23, 6-13 A-Sun) scored the games lone run with two outs when Cheniece Cason started things off with a singled to left field. Katy Jett followed by lining a shot into the gap in left-center field where KSU center fielder Tiffany Alvarado sprinted towards wall, but had the ball pop out of her glove, scoring Cason with the lone run of the game.

The Owls threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning when with two outs Jordan Hackett singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. However, she was stranded in scoring position when Brittany Moore lined out to third base to end the game.

Marissa Hardy was impressive for the Buccaneers as she tossed a complete game, five-hitter with six strikeouts. Hardy (15-13) pitched out of a jam in the fourth inning when Catherine Tarvin and Kelsey Kulk had back-to-back, two-out singles. They were left on base when Hardy struck out Jacki Waren to end the rally.

Hackett had two hits to lead the Kennesaw State offense while Alvarado had her first hit of the season, an infield hit past Hardy in the fifth inning.

Before the game, the Owls honored members of the Lorelei Ladies, the first-ever Atlanta-based traveling fastpitch softball team as well as seniors Jacki Warren and Jamie KeKaualua.
