Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham used a three-run, fourth inning to defeat Kennesaw State, 5-2, in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Wednesday night at Bailey Park.

Catherine Tarvin (6-11) and the Owls held the Blazers (17-29) to three scoreless innings before UAB's offense erupted in the fourth. Amanda Allen and Laura Callaway led off the inning with singles before Mandy Lowman laid down a sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position. With one out, Cameron Skates belted her fourth home run of the season over the right field fence, putting the Blazers up 3-0.

The Blazer offense kept the momentum heading into the fifth inning, scoring two runs off of two hits and one KSU error. After Caley Walden reached on an error by the Owls, she was driven in on an RBI-double from Callaway, her second hit of the game. With runners on second and third, Lowman used a sacrifice fly to give UAB a 5-0 advantage.

Kayla Harris (2-3), who earned the win for UAB, held the Black and Gold to just four hits in five innings. Lindsey Croft pitched two innings of relief to get her first save of the year.

Croft allowed just one hit, which came in the sixth inning from Klair Wells, scoring Jamie KeKaualua who singled to lead off the inning. Tarvin scored Hollie Huffman when she grounded out to first base as KSU cut the lead to 5-2.

After holding UAB scoreless in the top of the seventh, KeKaualua picked up her second hit of the game, but it wasn't enough as the Blazers swept the twinbill and moved the Owls losing streak to four games.

Kennesaw State returns to Atlantic Sun Conference action on Friday, April 24, when they host USC Upstate for a doubleheader, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
