KENNESAW, Ga. - It was errors that again proved to be costly for Kennesaw State as three errors led to three unearned runs as Jacksonville State scored two runs in the seventh inning to upend the Owls, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Bailey Park.
The Owls (19-26) spotted the Gamecocks a two-run lead as JSU scored solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings as they chased started April Harper after one out in the top of the fifth inning.
Kennesaw State would get to within a run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Brittany Moore led off the inning by smacking a home run down the left field line. The Black and Gold would continue to pressure JSU pitcher Ashley Allison in the inning and loaded the bases courtesy of singles by Kelsey Kulk and Jacki Warren and Lyndsay McCurry being hit by a pitch.
However, Eliasson would be able to regroup and got Jordan Hackett to ground back to the circle and then got Klair Wells to ground out to first base to end the inning. The Owls would also load the bases in the next inning when Jenna Closner and Catherine Tarvin singled to lead off the inning.
With JSU starter re-entering the game after the hit to Closner, Moore reached on an error by Allison Svoboda to load the bases. Pittman got two quick outs as Kulk grounded to shortstop and Warren fouled out to first base. Jamie KeKaualua tied the game when she drew a walk.
Jacksonville State (31-9) won the game in the top of the seventh inning with a one-out rally which began when Nikki Prier reached on an infield single and Allie Barker (2-for-3) walked. Kaycee Crow (2-for-4) followed with a single to center field which was mishandled by McCurry, scoring Prier for a 3-2 lead.
A wild pitch by Tarvin (6-10) scored Barker with the second run of the inning which could have produced a third run if not for Closner's throw to Tarvin covering home and tagging out Crow who tried to follow Barker home.
Kennesaw State got to five different Jacksonville State pitchers for six hits by six different players while Jacksonville State put together nine hits. The Owls left nine runners on base in the game while JSU stranded seven runners.
The Owls will be back in action on Wednesday evening when they host Alabama-Birmingham in a doubleheader at 4:00 p.m. at Bailey Park.
