NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Kelsey Kulk hit a two-run home run off the left field foul pole in the top of the eighth inning to left Kennesaw State to a, 3-1, win over the second-place Lipscomb Bisons in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Draper Diamond.
The Owls (19-22, 5-10 A-Sun) rallied to tie the game in the top of he seventh inning when, with one strike away from defeat, Klair Wells lined a triple down the right field line, scoring Jordan Hackett with the game-tying run.
April Harper (9-6) picked up the win for the Owls, going eight complete innings. The right-hander allowed just eight hits and struck out four batters and was effective in keeping the ball down and away for the Bisons as she recorded 16 ground ball outs.
The Kennesaw Stat offense came to life as they had nine hits in the game. Eight different KSU players had at least one hit for the Black and Gold. Jenna Closner had two hits for the Owls who had three extra base hits in the game, a double from Hackett, a triple from Wells and a homer from Kulk.
Christen Campbell and Mollie Mitchell each had two hits for the Bisons who lost for the second time in their last three games. Whitney Kiihnl (14-7) pitched a complete game for Lipscomb and suffered the loss while striking out eight batters.
