NASHVILLE, Tenn. - In the second game of Friday's doubleheader against Belmont, it was another tight game with a disappointing result for the Black and Gold as Kennesaw State again lost, 1-0, to Belmont as the Bruins swept the Owls at Aquinas Field.

For Kennesaw State (18-24, 4-10 A-Sun), it was a game identical to the opener in which a late inning misplay led to the game's only run and spoiled an otherwise strong pitching performance.

Amanda Burns (2-6) was the hard-luck loser in the nightcap as the right-hander threw effectively for the Owls. However, she was victimized in the fifth inning when she allowed a single to Brooke Babington with runners on first and second.

The base hit up the middle scooted under the glove of charging KSU centerfielder Lyndsay McCurry, allowing Sara Bentley to score easily from second base with the only run of the game.

The Owls had a chance to break open the game early as they loaded the bases in the top of the first inning. But like the opener, when they loaded the bases twice without scoring, KSU left the bases jammed as Jenna Closner, Catherine Tarvin and Brittany Moore all failed to bring home a run.

Belmont's Sammi Parks (5-13), who was the winning pitcher in the first game, entered the contest in the first inning after starter Hannah Brenzie allowed a single to Lyndsay McCurry and issued back-to-back walks to Hollie Huffman and Klair Wells.

Parks, who had just three wins on the season before today's doubleheader, retired three straight batters and cruised to the victory. The winner of both ends of the doubleheader, Parks and teammate Elly Bennett celebrated Senior Day between games of the twinbill.

Burns allowed five hits in six innings of work and suffered the unfortunate loss. Parks only allowed two hits in the game and was able to pitch out of a seventh inning jam as he Owls put the tying run on second base with two outs before Jacki Warren flied out to deep left field to end the game.
