Game Two Box Score
PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. - After falling, 6-0, in the first game, Kennesaw State used a two-run third inning to snap Georgia State's ten-game winning streak, beating the Panthers 6-3 in game two on Wednesday night at Bob Heck Field.
Georgia State (23-15) took an early 1-0 lead in game one, using three singles in the first inning from Danielle Roddy, Holly Willis and Catherine Lee. Amanda Burns (2-5) gave up a solo home run to Jones in the second to put the Panthers up 2-0.
Kennesaw State (18-21) could not get their offense going, tallying just two hits in the game, both from freshman Catherine Tarvin.
The Panthers scored four runs off of four hits in the sixth and KSU left two runners stranded in the seventh to give Georgia State the 6-0 victory. Burns received the loss, allowing eight hits in five innings while Madi Gore (10-6) picked up the win, allowing just two hits in seven innings.
After two scoreless innings, the Owls were first to draw blood in game two, scoring two runs in the third after Erica Joseph picked up her first hit of the season and Lyndsay McCurry reached on an error. Hollie Huffman advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt and Klair Wells doubled to right field, putting the Black and Gold up, 2-0.
The Owls doubled their lead in the sixth inning off a Rachel Chapman double to center field, scoring Brittany Moore and Jacki Warren, who singled earlier in the inning to give KSU a 4-0 advantage.
Lee, Roles and Rachel Cunningham helped cut the Panthers deficit in half, using two singles and a walk in the sixth inning to put Georgia State down, 4-2.
Kennesaw State added two more insurance runs in the seventh, using singles from Jenna Closner, Tarvin, Moore and Kelsey Kulk to take a 6-2 lead. Even though the Panthers scored a run in the bottom of the frame, the effort fell short as the Owls took game two and snapped the Panthers ten-game winning streak, 6-3.
Tarvin (6-8) received the win for KSU, giving up eight hits and striking out three in seven innings. Thomas (9-6) took the loss for Georgia State, giving up seven hits and two earned runs in five innings. McCurry, Moore and Chapman each tallied two hits in the Owls victory.
The Black and Gold return to Atlantic Sun Conference action this weekend when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. to take on Lipscomb and Belmont.
