Box Score
KENNESAW, Ga. - Andrew Martin's bases loaded single to right center scored Jacob Robbins with the game-winning run, lifting Kennesaw State's baseball team to a 5-4 win over Jacksonville State on Wednesday night at Stillwell Stadium in non-conference baseball action.
The Owls (18-14) trailed 4-3 entering the ninth inning, but scored in both the ninth and 10th innings to get the win. After Tyler Stubblefield led off the ninth with a double, Martin sacrificed KSU's shortstop to third base. Martin Baker followed with an RBI double to right, scoring Stubblefield with the tying run.
Jacob Robbins led off the 10th inning with a walk for the Owls. Two batters later, Jon White singled back up the middle, sending Robbins to third. After an intentional walk to Ric Bishop loaded the bases, Stubblefield struck out, putting the pressure on Martin. The senior came through, lifting an 0-1 offering from Bill Henke (1-1) into right center for the game-winning run.
Kenny Faulk (5-2) worked two perfect innings, striking out three Gamecocks to earn the victory. Kyle Clayton started for the Owls, giving up three runs in four innings. Ryan Rodebaugh allowed a run in two innings of work, while Wes Tignor gave up two hits in two innings. KSU's pitchers combined to strike out a dozen JSU batters.
The Owls trailed 1-0 after a two-out solo homer by Kyle Bluestein in the first. KSU knotted up the score one inning later when Bishop singled, moved to second on a balk, advanced to third on a Martin ground out, then scored on the second balk of the inning by Kevin Elwell.
Back-to-back homers by the Gamecocks (20-13) put the visiting team up 3-1 after four innings, but the Owls responded with power of their own in the fifth. Jordan Craft turned on a 2-2 offering from Aaron Elias for a two-run homer to left, knotting the score at 3-all.
JSU took the lead in the sixth and it looked as though the run would hold up until the late-inning heroics of the home team resulted in the win.
The Owls will return to action this Friday when they face in-state and Atlantic Sun Conference rival Mercer. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. in Macon, Ga.
