Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga. - Junior Chad Jenkins allowed just five hits and two walks while striking out 10 in a complete-game effort as the Kennesaw State baseball team swept a doubleheader from USC Upstate by winning game two, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at Stillwell Stadium.

Jenkins (4-1) needed just 93 pitches to mow down the Spartans lineup, The Spartans got a base runner with a bunt single from leadoff man Kyle Simpson, but Jenkins then proceeded to get the next 15 outs in a row before the second hit of the game for USC Upstate. Jenkins did not go over the minimum batters faced until the seventh inning, when a two-out walk and a single gave the Spartans their first runner in scoring position of the game, but Jenkins would record a strikeout to end the threat.

Meanwhile, the Owls (17-12, 10-3) got the only run they would need in the first inning as Jace Whitmer's RBI grounder allowed Jacob Robbins to score from third. The game was still tight until the bottom of the sevneth, when the Owls finally pushed across four runs to crack the game open. With runners on the corners, Martin Baker doubled to left to score Whitmer to put KSU ahead 2-0. With two men on, Clint Roques tripled to the deepest part of the ball park in left center, scoring Baker and Tyler Stubblefield to put KSU up 4-0. After a walk, Roques scored the final run of the game on a Robbins single through the right side.

Upstate (8-25, 2-15) threatened to end the shutout bid of Jenkins by getting two runners in scoring position with two men out in the ninth. But Jenkins would rise to the occasion, getting the final batter of the game swinging to give KSU the shutout win.

The complete-game shutout for Jenkins stretches his scoreless innings streak to 17. The hurler has allowed just seven hits during that stretch, which dates back to the sixth inning of KSU's second game at Stetson.

After Friday night's rain out of the first game of the series, the two teams will now play the finale on Easter Sunday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
