JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team turned in the best 36-hole team performance in school history at the James Madison/Eagles Landing Invitational on Monday afternoon, shattering many other team and individual records in the process.

"I could not be prouder of how the team performed today," said Kennesaw State Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead on the Owls great start. "A strong finish tomorrow will put us in line not only for a number of school records, but also our first win at the Division I level."

The Owls are in second place, just six strokes behind leader UT-Chattanooga, after finishing the day with a KSU 36-hole low of 589. Their one-over par 289 in the second round was four strokes better than the school's previous 18-hole low of 293, while the opening round 300 was good enough for third-best all-time.

Ashley Aguilera led the Owls, setting a KSU individual record after carding the lowest round of the day, a 69, in the afternoon session. Her 141, 36-hole total is five better than the Owls previous low set by Sharon Lewin in 2006. The reigning Florida Women's Amateur Champion led the field with 10 birdies while finishing tied for second in par three (3.00) and par four (3.90) scoring.

Joining Aguilera in the top ten was freshman Patricia Arana. Arana shot 73-75 to finish the day tied for ninth at 148. The freshman from Barcelona, Spain led the field in par five scoring (4.63) while finishing tied for third in birdies with six.

Closing out the scoring for the Owls were Jordan Lazenby and Malin Becker, both of whom finished the day inside of the top 25. Lazenby stands alone in 12th, just one stroke behind Arana while Becker is tied for 16th at 151. Lazenby's second-round 72 was her lowest as an Owl. Both players recorded five birdies on the opening day, tying for fifth-most in the 81-player field.

Though neither of her scores counted towards the team total, Laura Lindsey still managed to come in tied for 34th, just three strokes out of the top 20.

The Owls as a squad led the field in birdies (29) and par four scoring (4.12) while coming in second in par three scoring (3.20) and third in par five scoring (5.07)

"Today was an excellent all-around team performance," added Brinsmead. "All of the women looked sharp. I am excited to see how we finish tomorrow."

The teams will play the final 18 on Tuesday at the 6,282-yard, par 72 Eagles Landing Golf Course. A recap and scores will be available on the Kennesaw State Athletics homepage following the conclusion of play.
