Final Stats

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State men's tennis team lost its first-ever Atlantic Sun Conference match after falling 5-2 to Campbell at the KSU Tennis Complex on Saturday.

"We competed exceptionally well today against a solid Campbell team," said Kennesaw State Head Coach Brandon Padgett. "This gives us a great indication of where we stand in the conference and what to expect the rest of the way out."

The Owls (3-5, 0-1) wrapped-up their six-match homestand with an even 3-3 record. The win moved Campbell to 8-4 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

The Owls got overpowered in the doubles portion, losing all three matches to fall in an early 1-0 hole. Andrew Suesserman and Simon Janik lost 8-1 to Loukas Wallaart and Jeroen Kuppens at No. 2 before the Camels' Davy Sum and Lubos Sobotka sealed the doubles win with an 8-2 defeat of Tyler Mills and Michael Langel at No. 1.

The Owls, who were coming off of an exciting 4-3 upset of Buffalo on Friday, didn't fare much better in singles. Mills fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 and Washington lost 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 to put the Owls behind 3-0. Sobotka's 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 defeat of Janik at No. 3 sealed the win for the Camels.

Showing their desire to fight to the end, the Owls finished the day strong by taking the last two matches on the courts. Michael Langel won his third-straight match with a 7-6 (4), 2-6, 10-7 victory at No. 4, while Ryan Bouttell won his second in a row with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kuppens at No. 6.

"Ryan and Michael finished off a great weekend with another win," added Padgett. "Both pulled out tough matches today against tough competition. "

The team is next scheduled to face Appalachian State on Tuesday March 10th in Daytona Beach, Fla. They will remain in the Sunshine State for a March 11th meeting with Bethune Cookman before returning home to face A-Sun rival East Tennessee State on March 14th.
