Box Score

WOODSTOCK, Ga. - Kennesaw State recorded a season- high 11 hits, but it wasn't enough offense as the Owls fell to Centenary College, 8-5, in the second game of the Buzz Classic on Friday evening at the Twin Creek Softball Complex.

The Owls (7-10) spotted Centenary a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but answered quickly in their half of the inning as Klair Wells led off the game for KSU with her first home run of the season.

Kennesaw State took a 3-2 lead in the second inning when Catherine Tarvin and Brittany Moore singled to start off the frame. Jacki Warren drove in the tying run on a single to left field and Wells (3-for-4) got her second hit of the game on an RBI-single through the left side to give KSU a one-run lead.

After both teams tallied a run in the fourth inning, the Ladies (13-8) regained the lead when they scored three unearned runs and chased Tarvin as April Harper made her second relief appearance of the day.

Trailing, 6-4, the Owls cut into the Centenary lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Moore, who had three hits in the game, made the score 6-5 on a single that scored Hollie Huffman. The Owls left the bases loaded in the inning as Centenary's Jessica Bock (6-5) retired Rachel Chapman (2-for-4) and Warren (1-for-4) to end the KSU rally.

Centenary added two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to give the Owls a split on the day.

Tarvin (3-3) took the loss for KSU, allowing just three hits while striking out three batters in four and one-third innings. Harper pitched two and two-third innings in relief, giving up four hits and recording three strikeouts.

The Black and Gold will continue play in the Buzz Classic on Saturday afternoon when they take on Akron at 4:00 p.m. followed by a 6:00 p.m. contest against Albany (N.Y.).
