DeLAND, Fla. - Jacob Robbins and Jon White each drove in a run as the Kennesaw State baseball team lost 7-2 to Stetson in the opener of a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference series at Melching Field.
The Owls drew first blood when Robbins singled to center, scoring Drew Fowlkes to put Kennesaw State up 1-0. The score stayed the same until the fourth when Nick Rickles' two-run homer put the Hatters ahead to stay.
Kennesaw State was limited to just six hits on the evening, with no player getting more than one. Robby Donovan (3-1) went 6.1 innings, allowing one run on four hits to earn the victory, while handing KSU starter Kyle Heckathorn (2-1) his first blemish of the year. Heckathorn went six innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out three batters.
Ahead 4-1, Stetson's Casey Frawley and Jeremy Cruz went back-to-back out to left field off of KSU's Kyle Clayton, pushing the lead to 7-1. The Owls chopped into the lead when White's single to left center plated Ric Bishop for the final run in the 7-2 contest.
The two teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. for a doubleheader.
