Box Score

STATESBORO, Ga. - Ric Bishop's two-run home run in the first inning looked like it may prove to be the winning margin for the Kennesaw State baseball team, but Georgia Southern scored two runs in the eighth to pull out a 4-2 victory over the Owls on Tuesday night at J.I. Clements Stadium.

The Owls (9-10) drew first blood with two men out in the first inning when Bishop connected on a 2-0 offering from Andy Moye for a two-run shot over the fence in left-center.

With usual weekend starter Chad Jenkins on the mound to start for the Owls in a "staff day" role, the tone was set early as the Eagles only got two base runners on against the hurler in two innings of work. Jenkins was followed by Justin Edwards, who prevented Georgia Southern (17-4) from getting a base runner to second in the following three innings. But in the sixth, the Eagles struck for a pair of runs (one unearned) to knot the score.

The score remained the same until the eighth inning when Phillip Porter connected for a solo homer to dead center off of Wes Tignor to put the Eagles ahead, 3-2. Georgia Southern would tack on an unearned insurance run to salt the game away.

Both pitching staffs were sharp, giving up five hits a piece. Dexter Bobo (2-0) earned the win with 1.2 innings of relief for the Eagles, while Wes Tignor fell to 0-2 with the loss.

Embarking on a six-game road trip, the Owls will now travel to Cullowhee, N.C., for a date with Western Carolina on Wednesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
