Final Stats
JACKONVILLE, Fla. - Ryan Bouttell won his fifth match in a row, but it wasn't enough, as the Kennesaw State men's tennis team fell 6-1 at Atlantic Sun Conference rival North Florida.
Bouttell, who moved up to No. 4 after a shoulder injury sidelined Simon Janik, continued his solid play with a 4-6, 7-6, 11-9 over UNF's Misanovic. The five-match win streak is the longest for the first year men's tennis team.
"Ryan was able to move up another spot to No. 4 and still pull off a victory," said Kennesaw State Director of Tennis Operations and Assistant Coach T.J. Greggs on the play of Bouttell. "He has been playing some inspired tennis as of late and is truly shaping into a very solid all-around player."
North Florida (8-5, 3-2) won all three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead. Janik suffered his injury in an 8-2 loss at No. 2 doubles with partner Andrew Suesserman.
The Owls (4-7, 0-2) pushed two other matches to a third set in a contest that was closer than the score suggests. Tyler Mills took an early lead but couldn't hold on, eventually falling 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 at No.2. Michael Langel took the second set in his 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 loss at No. 3. The remainder of the Black and Gold lost in straight-sets.
"We knew we were up against a very solid UNF squad today, and didn't get off to the best start in doubles," added Greggs. "We were able to hang in there quite well despite losing Simon to injury. Every player gave it their all today, and we came up short, but overall I am happy with the effort that was shown."
The team will remain in town for a 10 a.m. showdown with Jacksonville. A recap of the action will be available on the Kennesaw State Athletics home page following the conclusion of play.
