ATLANTA - Martin Baker and Curtis Van Wyck each had three hits as the Kennesaw State baseball team fell 11-3 to No. 3 Georgia Tech on Wednesday night at Russ Chandler Stadium in the final game of the season series between the schools.
The Owls (7-8) fell behind 7-0 as the Yellow Jackets sent a dozen batters to the plate in the first inning. Tony Plagman connected for a three-run homer and Jason Garofalo had a two-run double to account for the biggest blows.
The first three batters for the Yellow Jackets (14-1) reached in the second, chasing KSU starter Justin Edwards (1-3) from the contest. The Yellow Jackets would only score one run in that inning, and the Owls kept the Jackets off the board for the next three innings.
KSU's offense got rolling in the sixth inning, scoring three runs. Ric Bishop, Jace Whitmer, and Tyler Stubblefield all reached to start the inning, with Bishop scoring on Van Wyck's single to left. After a double play with the bases loaded scored another run, Andrew Martin singled to center, scoring Stubblefield to make the score 8-3.
The Owls nearly got out of the sixth inning unscathed, but Garofalo tripled down the line in right with the bases loaded, clearing the bases and providing the final 11-3 margin.
Kevin Jacob (3-0) earned his second win in as many starts for the Yellow Jackets, pitching five scoreless innings.
KSU will return to action this Friday when it opens a three-game series at home against Southern Utah. First pitch from Stillwell Stadium in the series opener is set for 6:00 p.m.
