KENNESAW, Ga. - Junior starter Chad Jenkins gave up two earned runs in six innings with six strikeouts as the Kennesaw State baseball team fell 11-0 to No. 3 Georgia Tech on Tuesday night at Stillwell Stadium in front of 1,014 fans.
Jenkins (1-1) pitched well for the Owls, but the Owls bats were stymied by Georgia Tech pitching. A trio of Yellow Jackets pitchers combined to allow just two hits to KSU (7-7), with Jace Whitmer singling to start the second and Ross Tendler singling with two men out in the ninth.
Still, Georgia Tech (13-1) led just 4-0 after Jenkins departed. However, the Yellow Jackets tacked on one run in the seventh, then added six in the eighth to blow the game wide open.
Luke Murton led the Yellow Jackets with three RBIs while Matt Skole had a team-high three hits. The Yellow Jackets had 15 hits on the day, but only two went for extra bases.
Zack Von Tersch (4-0) allowed one hit in two innings of work to earn the victory. Jed Bradley pitched five hitless innings of relief, while Brandon Cumpton worked the final two innings.
The two teams will square off again tomorrow at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., with the game available on the internet via ACCSelect.com.
