ORLANDO, Fla. - After defeating Ball State, 1-0, the Kennesaw State softball team ended their Orlando road trip with a 3-1 win over Central Florida in the night cap of a double header on Tuesday at the UCF Softball Complex.
Central Florida (14-14) took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Abby McClain scored on a KSU error after she had singled up the middle to lead off.
The Owls (11-11) quickly tied the game in the top of the second when Catherine Tarvin (three-for-four) lead off with a single through the right side and advanced on a wild pitch. With one out, Jessica Symanski singled up the middle to tie the game, 1-1.
In the fourth inning, the Black and Gold led off with two singles from Tarvin and Jenna Closner. Jamie KeKaualua loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch and Lyndsay McCurry put the Owls up 2-1 with an RBI walk.
The Owls added an insurance run in the seventh when Hollie Huffman, who went two-for-three in the game, led off with a single to right field. With two outs, Rachel Chapman reached on an error by the Knights short stop and Closner allowed the final run to score after she reached on a throwing error by the pitcher, giving KSU their fourth consecutive win.
After winning the first game, April Harper started the game and pitched three and one third innings before Tarvin (4-4) came in in relief and got the win, allowing three hits and striking out two in three and two thirds innings.
The Black and Gold play a double header against Bethune Cookman tomorrow afternoon with the first pitch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Fla.
