CLINTON, S.C. - The inaugural Kennesaw State Men's Tennis team couldn't emerge victorious from its first-ever dual match, dropping a disappointing 6-1 decision to Presbyterian on Friday afternoon.

Tyler Mills led the way for the Owls, earning their first and only point with a 6-3, 6-4 straight-set win at No. 3 singles. Lawrence Washington and Justin Suesserman continued their string doubles play from the fall season, winning 8-6 at No. 3 in Kennesaw State's only doubles win.

"I am disappointed in the result today, but there were some bright spots," said Kennesaw State Director of Tennis Operations T.J. Greggs. "Lawrence, Tyler and Justin all played well."

Washington and Suesserman also came close to earning singles victories for the Owls. Washington bounced back after getting blanked in the first set at No. 1 to push his match to a third, but couldn't hold on, eventually falling 6-0, 4-6, 6-2. Justin also fell in three sets, losing 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 at the No. 6 spot.

Ryan Bouttell also took his match to three sets, claiming the first set 6-4 before letting his opponent fight back for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 win at No. 5. The Owls remaining two singles matches resulted in straight-set sweeps, as Simon Janik fell 6-2, 7-6 (2) at No. 2 and Andrew Suesserman lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4.

It was Presbyterian's first team win of the season, moving their record to 1-2. The Owls will get the chance to bounce back quickly as they are scheduled to face UNC Asheville at 12 p.m. on Saturday in Asheville, N.C.
