Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga. - Georgia Tech scored two runs in four different innings as they defeated Kennesaw State, 8-0, at Bailey Park on Wednesday afternoon.

A first inning error led to a pair of Georgia Tech runs as the Yellow Jackets (9-5) jumped over the Owls and starter Catherine Tarvin. Tech would add two more runs in the top of the third inning on a two-run home run by Tiffany Johnson.

Tarvin (2-2) pitched five and two-third innings, allowing four earned runs and seven hits in her fifth start of the season. Amanda Burns pitched a third of an inning as the Owls dropped their third straight game.

The Owls (5-8) managed to put together a minor rally in the bottom of the first inning when Jenna Closner walked and Tarvin was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. But, the Yellow Jackets Jessica Coan (1-2) struck out Burns, one of seven strikeouts on the day, to end the threat.

The Yellow Jackets added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game out of reach. Whitney Haller singled in the fifth inning scoring Jessica Weaver. Kelly Eppinger also scored on the play after the ball was misplayed in center field as Tech built a 6-0 advantage.

A pair of infield hits in the top of the sixth inning concluded the scoring as Amelia Beach scored on an infield single by Eppinger and Kristen Adkins scored on an infield hit by Shannon Bear.

Kennesaw State will be back in action this weekend when they host the Owl Classic at Bailey Park. The Owls will host Eastern Illinois, North Carolina Central and Southern Mississippi on Friday and Saturday. KSU plays Eastern Illinois at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
