KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team improved upon its first round score by 13 strokes, turning in a second round 318 at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic to move up to solo 31st place heading into Tuesday's final round.
After opening with a 331 on the 5,907-yard, par-72 Oak Point Golf Course on Sunday, nearly all of the Owls squad shaved strokes off of their first round score while playing the 6,009-yard, par-72 Cougar Point Golf Course.
Laura Lindsey and Jordan Lazenby tied for the team's low score in the second round after carding identical 79's. Lindsey will head into the final round tied for 67th while Lazenby is tied for 151st after opening with a disappointing 86.
Though neither player found the red numbers on Monday, they both avoided catastrophe by recording nothing worse than a bogey. Lindsey continued to remain around the top in par four scoring average, finishing the day tied for fifth at 4.22.
Patricia Arana remained steady in her first collegiate tournament, turning in a second-straight 80 to put herself in a tie for 94th. The freshman from Barcelona, Spain birdied three holes on Monday, giving her five total to tie for fifth most among the field's 215 players.
Malin Becker showed the most improvement on the day, carding an 80 after shooting a 90 in the opening round. Becker looked sharp out of the gate on Monday, making birdie on 14 and 16 en route to an even par frontside 36.
The Owls will play Oak Point for the flight championship in Tuesday's final round after failing to move inside of the top 22 teams and make the cut. Miami holds the team lead at 605 while a trio of players shares the individual lead at 146.
