KENNESAW, GA. - Iowa's Brittany Weil struck out 12 of the 16 batters she faced as she no-hit the Owls in a five-inning, 8-0, win at Bailey Park on Sunday morning in the final game of the K-Club Classic.
Weil (8-2) was stellar as she struck out each batter in the Owls lineup at least once. The Owls (5-7) did manage to get a pair of runners on base in the game, Jenna Closner was hit by a pitch to lead off the second inning and Jamie KeKaualua walked to lead off the fifth.
Iowa (12-3) did most of its damage in the top of the first inning when they got to April Harper (0-2) for seven runs. Jenny Shuelke hit a three-run homer and Liz Watkins hit a two-run blast. Colleen McGlaughlin got things started with a two-run single.
Catherine Tarvin pitched the final four innings and allowed three hits without surrendering a run. The loss marked the first time that Kennesaw State was run-ruled at home since losing to Georgia Tech on March 12 of last year.
Kennesaw State will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Georgia Tech at Bailey Park at 4:00 p.m.
