BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Ric Bishop drove in a run for the third straight game as the Kennesaw State baseball team fell in the finale of a three-game series with the Samford Bulldogs by an 8-2 score Sunday afternoon.

KSU (1-2) scored in the top of the first inning as a sacrifice fly by Bishop drove home Martin Baker to put the Owls ahead.

The game was tied 1-1 until the Bulldogs blew it open with five runs in the sixth inning against KSU reliever Wes Tignor (0-1). Four consecutive RBI hits by Samford did the damage to the Owls, putting the road team in a 6-1 hole.

KSU chipped into the lead in the seventh when Jon White drove home Curtis Van Wyck with a grounder to short. The Owls threatened to come closer, but the Bulldogs turned a double play to end the inning.

Samford (2-1) put the game out of reach with two runs in the bottom of the eighth for the final 8-2 margin.

KSU starter Ryan Rodebaugh did not factor in the decision, going four innings and giving up just one run on two hits. Rodebaugh walked six batters, extending his pitch count to where he could go no longer than four innings. Wes Tignor (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs in 1.1 innings of work.

Andrew Jones earned the win for Samford, giving up two runs on five hits in 6.1 innings. The Bulldogs bullpen did not allow a hit in the final two and two-thirds innings of work.

KSU will open up the home portion of its schedule when it hosts Troy this Wednesday afternoon at Stillwell Stadium. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
