Box Score

MARIETTA, Ga. - The Owls overcame a two-run deficit to tie Memphis, but a five-run fourth inning rally was too much to overcome as the Tigers held off the Owls, 7-4, at the K-Club Classic at All-Tournament Player Park on Saturday afternoon.

Kennesaw State (5-6) suffered their first loss of the three-day event after wins over Miami (Ohio) and Drexel. Memphis (6-6) picked up its first win of the weekend after losses to Drexel, Iowa and Buffalo.

The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run single by Vanessa Walle. The Owls would tie the game with solo runs in the third and fourth innings. Kelsey Kulk hit her second home run of the season to lead off the third and Amanda Burns tied the game in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI-single.

Memphis broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth when a KSU error led to five unearned runs. Nikki Moreno delivered a two-run double and Lelani Bernadino singled in a run before Heather Mott hit a two-run homer to cap the scoring.

The Owls did manage to rally in the top of the seventh inning as they scored twice and brought the tying run to the plate. Hollie Huffman and Jenna Closner had RBI singles before Jackie Warren grounded out to third base to end the game.

Jessica Cross (2-3) took the loss, allowing six hits and two earned runs in four innings of work. Kimber Bossom (2-1) picked up the win for Memphis as she threw a complete-game seven-hitter with six strikeouts.

Huffman and Jordan Hackett each had two hits to lead a seven-hit Kennesaw State attack. Mott, Bernadino and Walle each had two hits for Memphis who had eight hits in the game.

The Owls will play Iowa on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Bailey Park. In a scheduling change, the Miami (Ohio)-Memphis game, originally scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at All-Tournament Player Park in Marietta, Ga. has been changed to a 1:00 p.m. start at Bailey Park.
