Owls Fly Over RedHawks

MARIETTA, Ga. - Trailing 3-0 after two and a half innings, sophomore Jessica Cross hit a three-run home run to help the Owls defeat Miami (Ohio) 5-4 on Friday night in the first day of the K-Club Classic at the All-Tournament Players Park.

With the Owls (4-5) trailing 3-0 after two and a half innings, Cross hit her third homerun of the season in the bottom of the third, scoring Jordan Hackett and Klair Wells who singled and walked earlier in the inning.

Miami (2-4) regained the lead in the fifth inning off a Jenna McGivney single and Katie Osburn double.

The Owls answered right back when Jenna Closner started a two-out rally with a single to third base. Catherine Tarvin and Amanda Burns both singled, tying the game again at four.

KSU held the RedHawks scoreless for two more innings and ended the game in the seventh inning. Cross led off with a walk followed by a sac bunt by Closner. Pinch running, Erica Joseph advanced to third when Burns reached on an error by the Miami shortstop. Jessica Symanski drove in the winning run on a fielder's choice.

Burns picked up her first win of the year after relieving Tarvin. Burns struck out one batter and gave up four hits in 4.0 innings. Tarvin had two strikeouts and seven hits in 3.0 innings.

Closner and Hackett had two hits each while Jacki Warren, Burns, Tarvin and Cross each collected a hit.

Kennesaw State continues play in the K-Club Classic Saturday, February 21, when they take on Drexel at 1:30 p.m. and Memphis at 4:00 p.m. at the All-Tournament Players Park.
