Final Stats

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State men's tennis team couldn't secure its second win of the season Saturday after losing 7-0 to Jacksonville State in a match that was much closer than the final score suggests.

The Owls (1-3) hung tough with the Ohio Valley Conference's top team, forcing two singles matches to three sets after coming up just short in a marathon doubles competition. JSU remained a perfect 4-0 on the season after securing the win, tallying their second victory over an Atlantic Sun Conference opponent after beating Belmont 4-3 to open the spring.

"The men fought hard against what is probably the best team in the OVC," said Kennesaw State head coach Brandon Padgett on the loss. "It's always tough to lose, but I am proud of the effort our team displayed today."

All three of the doubles matches were close, with the Gamecocks emerging victorious in two of three. Justin Suesserman and Lawrence Washington earned the Owls lone victory, edging out Chris Duke and Steffen Solomon at No. 3 for the 8-6 win. Tyler Mills and Michael Langel teamed up at No. 1, falling 8-6 to JSU's pairing of Gustavo Holz and Bernardo Bachino. The No. 2 match was even closer with Scott Robertson and Eduardo Saratt slipping by the Owls duo of Andrew Suesserman and Simon Janik 9-7.

Janik and teammate Ryan Bouttell competed in the closest of the singles matches, pushing their opponents to three sets before getting edged out. Janik jumped out to a quick lead but couldn't close out the match, losing 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 to Bachino at No. 3. Bouttell also won the first set before letting Duke power back for the 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5.

The remainder of the singles matches were decided in straight sets. Washington lost 6-2, 6-1 to Robertson at No. 1 and Mills fell 6-4, 6-0 to Saratt at No. 2. A. Suesserman and Michael Langel rounded out the Owls scoring, losing 6-0, 6-4 and 7-6(4), 6-0 at No. 4 and No. 6 respectively.

The Owls next match is scheduled for Friday, February 20. The match will be held at the KSU Tennis Complex and is scheduled to start at noon.
