DeLAND, Fla. - Montinique Nixon earned her second double-double of the week and Jennifer Baker poured in 15 points to lead Kennesaw State's women's basketball team to a 64-51 victory over Stetson on Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center in an Atlantic Sun Conference game.

KSU (12-12, 9-7) trailed just once in the contest, with that coming at 2-1 in the opening stages of the game. A defensive battle throughout, the Lady Owls led 9-8 before a 13-2 run shot KSU to a larger lead midway through the opening half. Three-pointers by Angie Smith, Gia Lockett, and DeAndrea Bullock helped to surge the Lady Owls ahead during the run. The Lady Owls led by a dozen when Greteya Kelley's jumper pushed KSU ahead 27-15, but the Hatters (8-18, 5-12) would score the final basket of the frame to cut the KSU lead to 10 going into the locker room.

KSU led by 14 early in the second half after a three-point play by Baker gave KSU a 35-21 lead with just under two and one-half minutes played. Stetson would fight back, cutting the KSU lead down to six after a jumper with just under 10 minutes to go made the score 41-35, capping a 14-6 spurt for the Hatters.

Undaunted, the Lady Owls continued to pound the ball down low to Nixon. With the lead stuck at six, Nixon grabbed an offensive rebound and got the put-back to push the lead back up to eight. Then after a Baker basket made the lead nine, Nixon scored two straight baskets to give the Lady Owls a 49-36 lead, capping an 8-1 run.

The lead for the Lady Owls would balloon as high as 18 after Baker connected on a three-pointer with two minutes to go, making the score 56-38. Stetson would get as close as 11 down the stretch, but two free-throws by JoeDonna Molden gave KSU the 64-51 final score.

KSU dominated on the glass, out-rebounding Stetson 55-33, including a 25-13 advantage on the offensive boards. Nixon was a huge part of that, grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds, with seven coming on the defensive end. She completed the double-double with a team-high 16 points. Baker fell a rebound shy of the double-double after scoring 15 points.

Tierra Brown led Stetson with a game-high 22 points. The Hatters forced 29 KSU turnovers, but only shot 20-of-61 from the field, including 1-of-7 from the three-point line.

KSU will return home for their final homestand of the season, starting this Thursday against Belmont. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
