KENNESAW, Ga. - The Owls snapped their three-match losing streak with an impressive, 7-0, win over Alabama A&M at the KSU Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.

The Owls (2-3) wasted no time getting ahead of Alabama A&M as they quickly swept through doubles play. Mercedes Cobos and Ayano Tanaka were easy victors at No. 1 doubles as the pair defeated Me'Shala Johnson and Brittany Jelks, 8-2.

MacKenzie Swindell and Lindsay Dillon kept the momentum going as they defeated Te'Isha Mixon and Yemurai Muskwe, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles. Courtney Cox and Morgan Carney completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win over Jasmine Cherry and Allison Gladness at the No. 3 flight.

Things were a little tougher in the singles flight, but Kennesaw State was still able to sweep past Alabama A&M (1-2) in six, straight-set wins.

The Owls No. 1-seed, Vera Shkundina, defeated Johnson, 6-1, 6-1 to give Kennesaw State a, 2-0, lead. Carney, playing at No. 2 singles, defeated Jelks, 6-4, 6-1, before Cobos solidified the win for the Black and Gold with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Mixon.

"We still need to figure some things out as a team," said Kennesaw State head coach Brandon Padgett. "But we are getting better each day."

Kennesaw State finished off the sweep as Alena Sergeychik topped Cherry, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles while Cox bested Muskwe, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and Dillon defeated Gladness, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

The Black and Gold will look to get back to the .500 mark on Saturday afternoon at noon when they host Jacksonville State at the KSU Tennis Complex.
