KENNESAW, Ga. - It was a day to remember for the Kennesaw State men's tennis team as the Owls won the first match in their history, defeating Alabama A&M, 7-0, on Friday afternoon at the KSU Tennis Complex.

"It was great to get the first win in the program's history," said jubilant head coach Brandon Padgett. "It's a nice way to open up a weekend homestand as well as get a big load lifted off our backs."

The Owls (1-2) swept through doubles in easy fashion, losing just three games. Andrew Suesserman and Simon Janik won at No. 1 doubles, 8-2 while Justin Suesserman and Lawrence Washington Jr. were 8-1 winners at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles team of Dylan Higgins and Michael Brazil blanked Anthony Pickard II and Anthony Pickard III.

On the singles side, Kennesaw State was equally as impressive as they swept the six singles points, losing just two games in 12 sets.

Washington, Ryan Bouttel, Higgins and Justin Suesserman were all 6-0, 6-0 winners while Tyler Mills defeated Evan Brown at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Michael Langel defeated Johnnie Singleton, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

"I hope we come ready to play tomorrow against Jacksonville State, the Ohio Valley Conference's preseason No. 1-ranked team," added Padgett. "We will need to raise our game to a whole new level to beat a team like JSU."

Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State will play at noon on Saturday at the KSU Tennis Complex.
