AUSTIN, TEXAS-- The Owls shot a 13-over par 293 in round one at the Challenge at Onion Creek hosted by Texas State on Monday, Nov. 2, before round two was suspended to due darkness.
"The team competed really well today in a tough field," Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We struggled on the greens in the morning but adapted well in the afternoon."
The University of San Francisco dominated the field of 21 on Monday, shooting a 15-under par 265 in the opening round to take the lead.
Patricia Arana led the Owls in the first round, shooting a one over par 71, while Abby Fitzgerald finished just one stroke back at 2-over par 72 to end the day in a tie for 27th.
Jordan Lazenby followed Arana and Fiztgerald in the standings in a tie for 52nd at 4-over par 74.
The Owls’ freshmen, Ket Preamchuen and Molly Winnett completed the scoring for Kennesaw State, with both finishing the first round in a tie for 74th at 6-over par 76.
"The team fought hard for every shot today," Brinsmead said. "With a strong finish tomorrow we will move into the top five."
