MACON, Ga. - In wet conditions on the final day of the Eat A Peach Invitational, Kennesaw State shot 311 to finish in eighth place out of 12 teams, 19-shots behind No. 9-ranked Georgia who won the title after shooting a 13-over par 301.
The Bulldogs came from behind to beat the 19th ranked Seminoles by one shot. The Owls beat in-state rivals Augusta State for the 2nd straight week and also conference foe Mercer.
"The team struggled down the stretch," Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We dropped nine shots over the last six holes and fell to 8th place. The team is putting themselves in very competitive positions but we have to learn to execute the shots under pressure. This will come with more experience. We will regroup this week as we prepare for our next tournament in Iowa."
Ket Preamchuen had another impressive tournament shooting 73-77 to earn another top 10 finish as she finished in a five-way tie for 8th place. The freshman, who finished tied with Florida State’s Lacey Agnew, the No. 25-ranked player in the country, finished strong parring the last 12 holes of her round.
"Again Ket showed she can compete against the best players in the nation," Brinsmead said. "I am very proud of her performance this weekend."
Abby Fitzgerald also had a strong tournament, finishing in a tie for 21st place after shooting 75-78. She finished in a five-way tie with among others, Emilie Burger of Georgia, the No. 26-ranked player in the nation. Patricia Arana, who finished tied for 40th place, shot 79 for the second straight round. Ashley Aguilera shot even par on the back nine to shoot 77, to finish in 44th place.
Molly Winnett finished the tournament tied for 63rd place while Jordan Lazenby, playing as an individual, finished in a tie for 26th place, shooting 75 in the first round and 79 in the final round.
The Owls will return to action on October 17-18 when they compete in the University of Iowa – Hawkeye Invitational.
