Preamchuen Leads Owls in Round One

The Owls will continue play on Monday

MACON, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team had another impressive start on Sunday, Oct. 4, ending their first round of competition at the Eat-A-Peach Invitational in a tie for sixth place at 19-over par 307.

“The team was solid today,” Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. “We left some shots out there but we were able to maintain a decent round. We will be looking to take advantage of our position tomorrow and make a move up the leader board.”

The Owls finished the day ahead of five others schools, including in-state rival Georgia State in the 12-team field at Idle Hour Golf Course. The No. 19-ranked Florida State Seminoles are in first place after finishing the day at even par 288. No. 9 Georgia concluded the opening round in third place at 10-over par 298 trailing Coastal Carolina (+9, 297) by one stroke.

Freshman Ket Preamchuen is continuing her strong freshman season as she stands just three shots behind Georgia’s Marta Silva Zamora who shot a a 2-under par 70 in the first round. Preamchuen made two birdies and 13 pars in the round and leads the Owls with a 1-over 73, finishing the day in a tie for ninth place.

Abby Fitzgerald shot a 3-over 75 and is tied for 17th place after the first round. Fitzgerald started out very strong as she birdied three of her first six holes and was 1-under through 13 holes. Patrica Arana finished at 7-over 79 and also began well with a birdie on her first hole, the par four 10th hole. She finished with two birdies in the round and was at 2-over on the front nine.

The Owls other freshman, Molly Winnett saw her first action in the lineup on Sunday, finishing the round in a tie for 48th place. Winnett shot an 8-over 80 with birdies on the 13th and 1st holes. Ashley Aguilera was 1-under through five holes including a birdie on the 12th hole before finishing with a 10-over par 82. Jordan Lazenby, who is competing as an individual, concluded thr first round at 3-over 75.

The tournament will conclude on Monday with the final round set to begin at 8:30 a.m. The action can be followed live on golfstat.com.
