The Owls got off to a solid start on day one of the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia Southern at Savannah Quarters Country Club on Monday, Oct. 19 finishing the day in a tie for sixth after shooting 291 and 294 in the first two rounds.
The Owls’ overall score of 585 leaves them tied with Furman and Jacksonville, while they are trailing tournament host Georgia Southern, Georgia College and State University, Old Dominion, Wofford College, and East Carolina who is in the lead after shooting 564 on the first day.
Individually for the Owls, J.P. Putnam gave the Owls a strong performance on Monday shooting 72 and 71 in the first two rounds to end the day at 1-under par 143 in a tie for 11th. His teammate, Jeff Karlsson was right behind him in a tie for 12th, finishing up at even par 144 after rounds of 73 and 71.
Following Putnam and Karlsson in the standings was freshman Ben Greene who finished the day at 4-over par 148 in a tie for 32nd.
Freshman Peter Hermansson saw his first action of the fall on Monday, carding rounds of 77 and 73 to finish the day at 6-over par 150 in a tie for 44th.
Alex Jones completed the scoring for the Owls shooting a 13-over par 157 after rounds of 81 and 76.
"We played solid for the most part but we struggled on the greens," Head Coach Jay Moseley said. "We will work that out for tomorrow’s final round and we are confident that our best golf is in front of us."
The tournament is set to conclude today, Tuesday, Oct. 20 with the final 18 holes.
