IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Owls, led by Freshman Ket Preamchuen climbed a step further up the leader board on the final day of competition at the Hawkeye Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa, jumping into fourth place after shooting 308 and 309 in the second and third round on Sunday, Oct. 18.

"I’m really proud of how the team played this weekend," Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "The greens were very fast and the wind was a factor today but they handled the conditions well."

Missouri State led the field of 13 teams at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City after shooting a 296 in round three to finish up at 50-over par 914, followed by the University of Illinois, the No. 33 ranked Iowa State, and the Owls.

Kennesaw State, who began the day in fifth after a first round 313 on Saturday, came back even stronger on Sunday to finish up in fourth at 66-over par 930.

Preamchuen recorded another top five finish, improving upon her first round 77, with rounds of 76 and 74 on day two, to finish in a tie for fourth at 11-over par 227.

Patricia Arana finished just three strokes back in a tie for tenth place, recording rounds of 78 and 75 on Sunday to shoot 14-over par 230 for the tournament.

Following Arana in the standings were Abby Fitzgerald and Jordan Lazenby, both finishing up in a tie for 33rd at 23-over par 239. After shooting a 78 on Saturday, Fitzgerald recorded rounds of 80 and 81 on Sunday, while Lazenby combined her first round 81 with consecutive rounds of 79 on the final day.

Ashley Aguilera rounded out the scoring for the Owls, carding finals rounds of 75 and 84 on Sunday, in addition to shooting an 84 on the previous day to finish up the tournament in a tie for 45th at 27-over par 243.

"Patty and Ket really played well with both securing top ten finishes," Brinsmead said. "Every tournament the team is getting better, so we are excited that our best golf is still ahead."

With two tournaments remaining in their fall schedule, the Owls will return to action on Oct. 26-27, when they travel to Kiawah Island, SC, to compete in the Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Charleston.
