BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Junior Gia Lockett scored a game-high 17 points, leading three Lady Owls who scored in double-figures as the Kennesaw State women's basketball team (5-6) improved to 2-1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference with a 66-48 win over Campbell on Monday night at the Pope Convocation Center.

"We're a team that's going to win games on our defense," said KSU head coach Colby Tilley. "To hold a team like Campbell to just 48 points is truly a testament to our defense tonight."

Things didn't start out well for the Lady Owls as Campbell scored the first eight points of the game. The Lady Owls finally got on the board on a jumper by Lennisha Johnson five minutes into the game, and the flood gates seemed to open. Back-to-back buckets by Locket cut the lead to two, and after a free throw for the Lady Camels, Lockett scored the next five points to guide the Lady Owls into the lead.

KSU's run continued, extending to 14-0 after a Greteya Kelley basket with 5:07 remaining gave the Lady Owls a 20-9 lead. Campbell finally scored its first field goal in more than 11 minutes with a three-pointer by Lauren Yesh, who tied for team-high honors with 11 points. With KSU leading 24-16, the Lady Owls went on an 8-0 spurt, capped by a Lennisha Johnson jumper to give the Lady Owls a 16-point advantage. The Lady Owls went into the locker room ahead 35-19.

In the second half, Campbell would claw back into the contest, going on a 14-2 run to start the half to cut the lead to six, 39-33. After trading baskets back-and-forth, the Lady Owls broke the game back open. Angie Smith connected from beyond the three-point line and and Lennisha Johnson converted a three-point play to extend the lead back to a dozen. The lead would balloon to 18 after a three-pointer by DeAndrea Bullock made the score 57-39. KSU led by as many as 19 after a Jennifer Baker three-pointer gave KSU a 62-43 lead. After Smith scored the final points of the game, the Lady Owls had a 66-48 win.

Johnson's 12 points marked a career-high, while Baker scored 14 to go along with a game-high four steals. KSU scored 25 points off of Campbell's 25 turnovers.
