KSU Wraps up Nashville Trip

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A 15-2 run in the early stages of the first half gave the Lipscomb Bisons a lead they would not relinquish as the Kennesaw State men's basketball fell 90-78 in an Atlantic Sun Conference game. Kelvin McConnell led the Owls with 18 points.

The Owls (6-12, 2-7) led early, 4-2, but Lipscomb went on a 15-2 run to open up a 17-6 lead. The Owls would battle to keep it close, but KSU trailed by 12 at the end of the first half, down 45-33.

After falling behind by as many as 21 in the second half, the Owls came back to put a scare into the Bisons. Trailing 77-57, the Owls got back-to-back three-pointers from Spencer Dixon and Kurtis Woods to trim the lead to 14. After a Lipscomb basket, Woods scored the next seven points, forcing Lipscomb (8-11, 4-6) into a timeout ahead by just nine, 79-70.

But it was not to be for the Owls. The Bisons would score the next five points of the game, pushing the lead up to 14 and ending the threat.

Woods scored 14 in the second half to finish with 16 for the game. Jon-Michael Nikcerson went 5-of-7 from the field to finish with 10 points, while Jonathan Whipple added 11 points. Dixon scored eight points and added six rebounds.

Five players finished in double-figures for the Bisons, led by Adnan Hodzic's 20. The Bisons shot 15-of-21 from the field in the second half for a blistering 71.4 percent. The Bisons went 30-of-51 for the contest from the field.

The Owls did not miss a free throw in the contest, going 10-of-10. KSU also made 10 three-pointers in the game out of 19 tries.

KSU will return to action this Thursday when the Owls face Mercer in Macon, Ga. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
