KENNESAW, Ga. - Seniors Britteny Henderson and Jennifer Baker each had double-doubles, but the Kennesaw State women's basketball team dropped a 77-65 decision to Stetson in an Atlantic Sun Conference game on Thursday night at the KSU Convocation Center.
The Lady Owls (6-8, 3-3) opened up an early 13-point advantage, leading 24-11 after a pair of free-throws by Henderson with just over 10 minutes left in the first half. The Hatters would storm back, using a 19-2 run to take a 30-26 lead. Once Stetson gained the lead, it would never trail the rest of the way.
The Hatters (7-9, 4-3) continued to pour it on late in the first half, with their lead capped at eight, 38-30, to end the first half.
In the second half, the Lady Owls were fitted for a rally, but Stetson was able to put a lid on the comeback. With KSU's confidence brimming, Henderson sank a pair of free-throws to cut the Stetson lead to five, 48-43. Stetson pushed the lead back to nine, 58-49, but a three-pointer by Angie Smith put KSU back in the mix down just six points.
That would be as close as the Lady Owls would come, as Stetson would see its lead top out at 13. A free throw by Smith would be the final point of the game as Stetson sealed a 77-65 victory.
Henderson had 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds while Jennifer Baker scored 15 and tied Henderson for high rebounding honors with 11. Smith scored 14 for the Lady Owls in the losing effort.
Sharnesha Smith led a hat trick of Hatters in double-figures with 19 points. Brittany Carranate scored 15 while Ashli Jackson added 12. The Hatters only turned the ball over five times throughout the game, the fewest turnovers the Lady Owls have forced since joining Division I.
The Lady Owls will return to action this Saturday afternoon when they host Florida Gulf Coast. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
