CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - For the second weekend in a row, Sophomore Mackenzie Howe set the pace for the women's cross country team, as the Owls came in third at the Powerade Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Friday, September 5.

"Mackenzie went right to the front and didn't let up," Head Coach Stan Sims said. "She lost a little near the end, but not because she didn't put it all out there."

Howe placed fourth in the two mile race with a time of 11:31. She was followed by Britany Reilly in 12th (12:15), Soibhan Wolcott in 14th (12:24), Kristen Gibson in 20th (12:32), and Caitlin German in 22nd (12:37).

"Going into the race, I knew what I would be up against, having raced against Auburn in the past," Howe said. "I knew the competition would be a challenge today, and we just had to go out and give our best effort."

The Owls placed third as a team, behind UT Chattanooga and Auburn, with Jacksonville State taking fourth, West Georgia in fifth, Mercer in sixth, and Tennessee State in seventh.

The Owls will be back in action when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to compete in the Crimson Classic on September 20th.
