CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Kennesaw State's men's cross country team followed the lead of senior Scott Burley for the second weekend in a row, as the Owls placed third at the Powerade Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Friday, September 5.
After being recognized as Atlantic Sun Runner of the Week with a second place finish at the Jacksonville State Invitational, Burley placed eleventh in the race on Friday, a 5K, finishing with a time of 15:57. He was followed shortly by Piotr Witczak in 13th (16:03), Steven Murray in 23rd (16:30), Maxwell Ndungu in 34th (17:03), and Jaakko Nieminen in 40th (17:21).
"There are definitely some things we need to work on," Burley said. "As always, the guys gave a great effort. Like I said last week, personally, I'm still not where I want to be. We have two weeks off now and we just have to work hard and be ready for the meet in Tuscaloosa."
Auburn and Alabama took first and second in the race, with UT Chattanooga placing fourth, followed by West Georgia, Jacksonville State, and Mercer.
" I was a little disappointed with today," Head Coach Stan Sims said. "We have a lot of work to do. With several of our guys red shirting this season, we have got some people who really need to step up."
The Owls will be back in action when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to compete in the Crimson Classic on September 20th.
