Day One Results
MADISON, Wisc. - Jordan Lazenby strung together a pair of solid rounds to lead the Owls Saturday at the University of Wisconsin's Badger Invitational at the 6,216-yard, par-72 University Ridge Golf Course. Lazenby is just four strokes out of the top 10, and five out of the top three after going 75-76 on Saturday.
The Owls junior was steady in the first round, recording par-or-better scores on all but four holes, including birdies on her last two, to finish with a three-over total. Though she birdied three holes on the frontside, Lazenby couldn't improve her score in the afternoon, coming in at 76 to move into a tie for 16th.
Ashley Aguilera was the only other Owl golfer to break 80 on the first day, turning in a second-round 78 to finish tied for 38th at 158. Aguilera went one-under par through her final six holes to improve over her opening round 80.
"We need to eliminate some of the mental mistakes that cost us today," said Kennesaw State Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "We can't take multiple double and triple bogeys and expect to compete in fields this deep."
Malin Becker and Lindsay Hagerman rounded out the Owls scoring on Saturday. Becker improved over her first round 86 with an afternoon 85 while Hagerman contributed an opening-round 84 to the team score. The two are tied for 66th at 169.
The Owls as a team are in twelfth place after carding 325 and 326 team totals in the first two rounds respectively. Current number 18 California is the tournament leader at 593, while Wisconsin's Jessie Gerry holds the individual lead at 137.
"Our women have proven to me that they have the talent necessary to compete in these types of tournaments," added Brinsmead. "Now they just need to go out on the course and prove it to themselves."
The third and final round will tee off at 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Sunday. A recap of the day's action will available following the conclusion of play.
