Men's Golf Finishes Fourth

Palmer's Toyota Fall Intercollegiate Final Results

MOBILE, Ala. - The Kennesaw State Men's Golf Team turned in the second-lowest final round team score Tuesday to propel the Owls to a solo fourth place finish at the University of South Alabama's Palmer's Toyota Fall Intercollegiate.

The final round 284, just two strokes more than tournament champion South Alabama (834), propelled the Owls past top 100 New Orleans (864), Atlantic Sun Conference foe Belmont (866), and Louisiana-Monroe (869) on the leaderboard.

J.P. Putnam continued to lead the Owls, matching his career-low 68, which he fired in the tournament's opening round, to finish in fourth place with an eight-under par 208. It was Putnam's third top five in seven events since joining the Owls last spring.

Michael Tulacz continued his push to finish his career at KSU as the most prolific golfer in school D-I history, turning in a one-under 71 to finish in a tie for ninth at 213. Tulacz is currently first in career scoring average (73.25) and winning percentage (.778). His 2007-08 performance ranks second in single season scoring average (72.6) and winning percentage (.809).

Newcomer Jeff Karlsson moved up the leaderboard Tuesday as well after carding an even-par 72 to finish tied for 22nd. Karlsson, who began the day tied for 34th, finished with a two-over par 218 in his first collegiate event.

Matthew Nagy rounded out the scoring for the Owls in Tuesday's final round, improving on his performance in the first two rounds by shooting a one-over par 73 to finish tied for 49th (224). Newcomers Parker Houston and Chad Wilson finished at 228 and 229 respectively after Houston finished with a 77 and Wilson closed with an 80.

South Alabama's Marc-Etienne Bussieres took the individual title with a 205 total following a final round 68. Austin Peay's Erik Barnes and USA'a Daniel Burns tied for second, just one stroke ahead of Putnam at 207.

The Owls will next compete on September 26th - 28th at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate in Nashville, Tenn. The event, hosted by Vanderbilt, will be the first appearance for the Owls in a tournament hosted by a school from the Southeastern Conference.
