Palmer's Toyota Fall Intercollegiate Day One Results
MOBILE, Ala. - The Kennesaw State Men's Golf team kicked off the 2008-09 season on Monday in Mobile, Ala., and the Owls find themselves in seventh place after the first two rounds of the Palmer's Toyota Fall Intercollegiate hosted by the University of South Alabama at the 6,850-yard, par-72 Azalea City Golf Club.
After finishing the day's first round in fourth place with a one-over par team 285, the Owls (576) slid back to the field with a second round 291. They stand just two strokes out of the top five and seven out of the top three.
J.P. Putnam led the Owls in scoring in the event's first two rounds, highlighted by a collegiate-low 68 in the first round. Putnam, a junior from Woodstock, Ga., carded an even-par 72 in the second round and stands tied for sixth at 140, just two strokes out of the top three.
Michael Tulacz continued his strong play at the Azalea City Golf Club. After finishing in third place in the season-opening event last season, Tulacz finds himself tied for tenth in this year's tournament after shooting 70-72 for a 142 total.
Jeff Karlsson, a freshman from Sweden playing in his first collegiate event, turned in the Owls third lowest score in both of Monday's rounds. Karlsson showed the consistency that helped earn him a spot on the traveling roster, putting together consecutive 73's to stand in a tie for 34th at 146.
Matthew Nagy turned in the Owls final score of the first round, a 74, before stumbling in the second round to record a 77. Newcomers Parker Houston and Chad Wilson tied each other with an afternoon 74 to round out the Owls second round scoring. Wilson stands tied for 48th (149), while Nagy and Houston are tied for 59th (151).
The host Jaguars (278-274) hold the team lead at 552 after turning in the lowest score in both of the first two rounds. Austin Peay (281-280-561) is in second with South Florida (287-282-569) in third. USA's Daniel Burns, the defending individual champion, is again the tournament leader after opening with back-to-back 67's.
