Wolverine Invitational Results
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - After rain washed out the first two rounds of play, the Owls finished strong at the season-opening Wolverine Invitational, placing in the top half of the field after coming in sixth in the 13-team competition at the par-71, 6,098 yard University of Michigan Golf Course.
Newcomers Jordan Lazenby and Ashley Aguilera led the way for the Owls (317) in the one-round event. Lazenby finished tied for 23rd after turning in a seven-over par 78, while Aguilera came in just one stroke behind with a 79 to finish tied for 33rd.
Laura Lindsey and Lindsay Hagerman rounded out the scoring for the Owls, finishing tied for 39th after each carding an 80. Lindsey rolled in a birdie on the par three eighth, while Hagerman led the Owls in red numbers after birdying the first and tenth holes.
"Considering the conditions of the course, I am proud of the effort the team gave today," said Kennesaw State Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead on her team's performance. "We left a lot of shots on the course, but we will learn from that and continue to work towards achieving our goals."
The Owls edged out Southern Methodist University (319) by two strokes, and Eastern Kentucky (320), who will participate in the Owls own Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational in the spring, by three.
Host Michigan took the title, posting a nine-over par 293 to best second place Minnesota (304) by 11 strokes. The Wolverine's Ashley Bauer took the individual title with a three-under par 68.
The Owls get a week off before traveling to Lawrence, Kansas to compete in the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational on September 21st and 22nd. The host Jayhawks have won the last two events, which will be held at the Alvamar Golf Club. The field will feature a number of Big 12 Conference opponents including Missouri and Kansas State.
