JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Mackenzie Howe led the way for the Kennesaw State women's cross country team on Saturday, August 30, finishing first in the Jacksonville Invitational, while guiding the Owls to a first place finish.
"I felt pretty good today," Howe said. "It is always a great boost of confidence when you can get the season started with a win. The first race can be a strong motivator, once you see where you are as compared to the competition.
"We had a lot of strong performances today that will hopefully lead to a very successful season."
Howe finished the two mile race with a time of 11:44 Britany Reilly was not far behind, placing third with a time of 11:44. She was followed by Soibhan Wolcott in 4th place (12:10), Caitlin German in 7th (12:24), Kristen Gibson in 11th (12:40), and Lorena Jaime in 12th (12:58).
"It was great to get the season started with a win," Head Coach Stan Sims said. "Going into the first meet, it is difficult to know what to expect. Now that we have the first race under our belts we can build upon the performances and achieve even more success."
The Owls will be back in action when they travel to Tennessee to compete in the UT Chattanooga Powerade Invitational on Friday, September 5.
