Day One Results
NORMAN, Okla. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team struggled to get things going in the first two rounds of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic Sunday, turning in a 638 36-hole total to stand in 15th place at the par-72, 6,013 yard Jimmie Austin Golf Club in Norman, Okla.
The tournament's host, Oklahoma, is in first place with an 11-over par 587.
The Owls improved dramatically in the second round, shaving 16 strokes off of their opening 327 with a second round 311.
Laura Lindsey led the Owls in both rounds, carding a 78 in the first round before improving with a one-over par 73 in the second. The Owls junior stands in a four-way tie for 23rd with at +7 heading into the final round.
The rest of the Black and Gold didn't fare as well on Sunday against some of the top programs from the Big 12. Abby Fitzgerald slipped into the top 50 after turning in a 157. Fitzgerald steadied herself with an afternoon 76 to move to a tie for 48th after carding a nine-over par 81 in the morning 18.
Jessica Tarbet and Lindsay Hagerman stand a stroke apart in 79th and 80th respectively. Tarbet recorded an opening 86 and closed with a 79 for her 165, while Hagerman went 82-84 for her 166.
Chelsea Bonk stands in a tie for 85th after carding a first day 170. The local product from Acworth got off on the wrong foot with a morning 87 before contributing to the team effort with a second-round 83.
The teams will play 18 holes on Monday to determine the champion. It is the last event on the Owls schedule.
